Sunday Evening Answers

There are dozens (hundreds) of self-assessments available to help individuals consider whether their current career, position or role is the right fit. No doubt many of them bring valuable insights to the process. However, there’s one available to anyone, anywhere. No paywall, filling out a bunch of forms or even the need to provide contact information to access. It doesn’t require a trained facilitator, membership in any special clubs or even access to the internet: The Sunday Evening Mindset (those working a schedule different from the traditional Monday – Friday, simply adjust according to your work rhythm).

How does it work? Simple:

  1.       Live life, including your weekend, based on your normal routine.
  2.       Sunday evening, tune into your mindset. Ask yourself how you’re feeling… tune into your affect.
  3.       Reflect on what it is telling you about life and work.

The Sunday Evening Mindset can provide a significant clue about the way in which we’re living our lives, both personally and professionally. Are you down in the dumps? Energized? Physically tired but with a smile on your face? Feeling regrets about how time was spent? Drudgery about heading into work? As you pause to consider what you’re feeling, what ARE you feeling?

Life isn’t intended to be an endless weekend. Living life fully – having the courage to step forward and be the person we were designed to be is, at the core, our greatest challenge and our most fulfilling adventure in this life. Yes – it’s nice to have a little extra space and autonomy in our schedules for a day or two. But then what? That’s precisely where the Sunday Evening Mindset can provide valuable clues about the direction of our lives.

We can keep doing what we’re doing, drowning out the clues with our distraction/noise of choice (junk food, TV, scrolling our phones, another drink, etc.). That’s the default choice, and the one most of us select. However, if we listen closely in Sunday evening’s closing moments, the answers are ready and waiting to point the way.
